I am shooting Cowboy Lever Action for the first time with a Marlin 336 30-30, with 24" barrell.

We will be shooting metallic animals at 50, 100, 150 and 200 meters.

Any suggestions as to the load and bullets?

Lee C309-150-F 150 grain FPGC cast of wheelweights, lubed with Lee liquid Alox and sized .310 over 29 grains of IMR 3031. 1,924 fps average, 2.25 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards and no leading in my 30AS.

How did this load and bullet perform at 200 meters

The described load sounds good at 100 meters. Do you know how it performs at 200 meters?

I shot at Ridgeway PA in October and one of the rifles I used was a 336SC (20") in 30-30 at the 300 meter target. I was using the Lyman 172 grain FN bullet and 17.5 grains of SR4759. I am in the process of working with a bunch of cast bullets in the 30-30. I have molds for LEE 150 and 170 , Saeco 150 , RCBS 150 and Lyman 172 in plain and hollowpoint. Also I use Thompson's Blue Angel , for my lube

AlSmith,

I have a 24" 336A I shoot at silhouettes and I use WW 748 powder with the 170 Speer FP despite the fact that I usually use cast bullets. My Marlin loves those Speers & WW 748. When I developed loads I had a scope mounted and this 30-30 would group 5 shots in an inch @ 100 meters, not just one time but consistently!

If you shoot at CSLC I'm sure we know each other and I'll see you in March.

Let me know if you need more specific data.

I found a very accurate load using 23.5 grains of IMR 4198 and Lymans 311291 gaschecked and cast of quenched wheelweight unsized. I expect it's getting around 2000 fps.
