This herd of Holsteins are on the Ohio/Indiana border. They're the first herd of dairy cows I'd seen in 40+ years that hadn't been de-horned. Right across the road on the Indiana side, were this small herd of Scottish Highlanders. The young Belgians, too young to plough, were found between Metz and Alvarado in Steuben County, Indiana. I saw these Watusi on my way to Elkhart a couple years ago.

With the almost completely automated dairy production systems these days, there's no need to get near either end of a cow. Waste of money to de-horn them, even as calves, I guess.

My company transferred me from SoCal to Utica, NY back in the early '80s. Snow in May wasn't unusual. Thankfully, I was only there for a couple of years.
