Leupold VX-Freedom 1.5-4x28 IER

Hi folks,
I was just wondering if anybody has or has used one of the above Leupold scopes? I'm looking at optics to go on an 1895 SBL (which I don't yet own...) for English woodland stalking. I like the look of the Leupold scopes, especially because they seem to weigh in lighter than equivalent European glass. Mostly people over here use variables with around a 50mm objective and tend to like a lot of mag range. But, mostly they don't use lever guns either...!
I was just hoping for some views on the 1.5-4x28 leupold. How does it manage in low light, especially the reticle as it's non-illuminated? I'm thinking with the slightly extended eye relief it would mount on the rail just in front of the rear ring sight.
Any thoughts?

I have an FX II 2.5 X 28 IER on my BL, and am very happy with it. My intended use is for Pennsylvania woodland stalking.

PS The scope is shown more forward that it will be when in use, due to the location of the tie downs in the case. Rear optic would sit just in front of the rear GR sight.

I like mine a lot. I prefer the IER to a full on Scout Scope, wanted a scope that would site low for cheek weld and keep the Peep. So far only shot at the targets and with the sun up.

I have one on my SBL. I deer hunt heavy woodlands in the Midwest. The scope is pretty good in low light for only having a 28mm objective lens. The scope mounts low and is extremely fast to pick up. The 4X is usually plenty for hunting shots within 150-200 yard range. I would highly recommend it!

Sounds perfect! The SBL is to be my forest rifle so I'll never to go further than 100-odd yards (or meters...) with it. I have a different tool for open ground and farmland. Low mounting and fast pickup sounds ideal, the whole point of buying a lever was to have something fast and pointy. Do you happen to know which rings you have? I'm keen to get as low as possible.

I have been wanting to build a dedicated “camp/camper protection” rifle for years that is quick to shoulder and have an optic that can be acquired and used with both eyes open. If taken to Canada the barrel has to me a minimum of 18”. I am considering either a scope such as this or a small red dot on my 1972 chopped 1895. It could also double as a compact deer rifle here in Ohio.
I mounted mine using Leupold low rings. It is a close fit but it is as low as I can go. I have the rear of the scope almost touching the Ghost ring and that allows the objective bell to clear the rail. Medium rings placed the scope much higher than I wanted and required an uncomfortable cheek weld. Eye relief is perfect at that mounting distance.
