Leaving for bear camp on Saturday morning !
Headed up to Alberta this year to hunt with Chris McKinnon's outfit.
Two bear area, and LOTS of color phase bears.
Going completely old school this time with just my bow and a blackpowder loaded, iron sighted Shiloh Sharps in .45-70.
Bow is my primary, and I'm gonna hunt with it until I take a bear or head home.
If I'm fortunate enough to get one early I'll try for my second with the smoke-pole.
Love to take a nice cinnamon or blonde bear, but this is my first time for anything other than whitetail with my bow, so any good legit bear, regardless, of color would make me happy.
Worked up a good blackpowder load for the Sharps, and have been practicing every day with my bow.
Going on this trip with my brother who is taking his scoped 336 in .35 Rem as his primary, but backing it up with an iron sighted 1940's manufacture Savage Model 99 in .300 Savage, so he's going pretty old school as well.
So excited I can "bearly" stand it !

Thanks fellas.
I'm pretty nervous... or maybe excited is a better word... about the archery hunt.
I've taken quite a few bears with rifles, but I'm pretty much a novice bow hunter.
I've been practicing a lot, but there's a big difference between practice and game day !
In 3 days it's gonna be the real deal.
I really wanna do this with a bow, and I'm not picking up that rifle until I do.
Pics to follow for sure and thanks again !

What great trip! It's dream time.... (I just talked to the good folks at Shiloh yesterday to plan out options on a #1 Sporter they'll build for me next year.)
