Just purchases a brand new Ruger-Marlin Guide Gun and the lever is stuck…

Hello everyone, I just purchased a new Ruger Marlin Guide Gun from Academy today. I went to put in a Hornady Lever-Evolution bullet and went to cycle the gun and now it’s jammed up and the lever won’t move. I’m pretty upset about the situation as I’ve waited months to get my hands on one of these.

can anyone help?

Are you holding the gun horizontal, like the way it's held when aimed/shot? I've seen "lock ups" before when someone tried to cycle the action with the gun pointed up/down. Locking block needs a little gravity to work.

Unscrew the lever and remove round. Reinstall lever and try again. Check the sideplate screws for tightness - one holds the carrier in and often comes loose.

Try this link
Marlins are pretty simple to break down for maintenance.
Good luck.
BTW use a good fitting so the screw slots do not get buggered up. There is more trouble shooting in that section.

Put the correct sized screwdriver on the screws on the face of the receiver and see if they’re loose. Use a gunsmith or hollow ground screwdriver if you have to tighten them or you’ll mess them up.

When I first got into lever guns I made the mistake of dropping them in the action while holding the gun on its side man I got some crazy jams thought I was an idiot , now I just load them in the loading gate and cycle them like I'm running the gun naturally and it works great , on my jm's and remlins

The screw on the lever won’t come out and Ruger won’t take the gun in since there is a live round stuck in the mag tube… terrible day for me

Post some pictures of the gun. Is the lever stuck all the way closed?

If you have a gunsmith or wish to take it to one, call first to provide them what happened and there is a live round in your rifle, and the lever is stuck open. Knowing this before you show up will be appreciated and they'll tell you any instructions prior entering their shop.

Don't despair , folks here can help, lots of experience on this forum. First step is get a set of good screw bits like a wheeler gunsmith screw set. Don't do anything with wrong screw drivers. After loosing the lever screw try gently using a punch (wrapped in tape) and push the screw out. If the lever won't budge at all . Stop. next try and disassemble the mag tube. this can be tricky so so be patient and ask for tips / advise

This link show above does show the procedure for removing the mag tube

Sounds like you may have to remove the magazine tube to remove the cartridge. Lots of you tube videos to show you how. One other thing to check, and this is a long shot. Check to see if the ejector spring is in place. I know it's a new rifle and should have passed the test at Ruger, but the bolt may have been removed at some point after that. Did you have it apart to clean it before you tried to load it? If the spring didn't line up right it could have the bolt in a jam. I've been there. Like I said, highly unlikely, but worth a check.

To clarify, You said the screw on lever won't come out.
1. Do you mean you can loosen the screw but will not eject from the hole. (give the screw a push from the other side).
2. OR, you CAN NOT loosen the screw at all? (soak it in kroil or other penetrating oil).

I had the same issue with mine and the problem with mine was the elevator, it was hanging up.
My Solution was to remove material at the front and back end also where the bullet will contact the elevator, then polish. However since you are having a difficult time removing the screw I suggest once you remove the bullet, send the rifle back to ruger for repair.

Hey I thought the new 1895 allows the the mag tube to be emptied by holding the loading gate open. Depress the loading gate with a wooden kabob skewer or some such and and then try to free up the round it should come out. I can do this even with a remlin SBL

Quite a few of us have experienced the infamous Marlin Jam. As others here have said, typically removing the lever is the place to start. It could be that the way the rifle is jammed, there may be pressure against the lever and thus the screw. You might check to see if you can relieve the tension against the lever.

Once you get this sorted out, I suggest you buy one of Ranger Point Precision's Lever Takedown Screws to replace your factory screw. I have done this on several of my Marlin Levers.
It makes dissassembly a whole lot easier! - T.S.

As others have said, there are good videos online. If you are uncomfortable with this, contact a local gunsmith.

A round is stuck in the chamber, or in the mag tube? Do you have any photos of the issue? I’m up to 11 marlins and each one of them has had something goofy happen

edit: I actually read and saw. Sounds like possibly the round was pushed back into the receiver and is blocking the action. This happened on my 3030, and on my Remington 870, the essentially feed the same. The 870 I had to pull the plug and out tumbled the shells. The 3030 I (with an extreme amount of care, pried the round forward until it clicked in front of the loading gate. The probably much safer option is to open the mag tube, a little finagling and the round should slide out.

This same thing happened to my old remlin 4570 all the time, I learned that I simply wasn’t feeding the round far enough in before it would spring back behind the gate. You cannot remove the screw with the lever up.

So I was able to remove the screw (messed up the blueing doing it…). The issue keeps happening. The casing can’t always clear the feeding ramp and the crap just keeps happening. For a gun that is this expensive… there shouldn’t be any issues!!!
