Is anyone going to be buying a 1911 for the One Hundredth Anniversary celebration?

I bought two a year ago. I figure that's close enough. Besides, the gun was actually finalized in 1909. 8)

Those guys may be correct with them dates...but in the spirit of the anniversary... ::)

I plan to pick up either a genuine WWI or commercial 1911 (not a 1911A1) or failing that, order up a Colt Anniversary 1911. I've been searching, came close a few times already, but there's still plenty of time...patience is a virtue.

I love anniversaries! A few years ago on our wedding anniversary, I bought a custom-stocked, Belgian-made, Mauser-actioned .270 Winchester...for myself. :) Now before I get a bunch of grief, I didn't neglect the wife. I got her a card and a music CD. ;)

Big gunshow this weekend...and it's the wife's birthday. Did I mention I love birthdays too? ;D

No plans to do so. At least until today the only pistol I had ever purchased for myself was a 1911, so I was just a few years ahead of the curve ;D

I've been looking at American Made replicas, and the Colt anniversary editions.

On the one hand, it would be cool to have one like an original made during the 100th year. On the other hand, itwould be nice to have one made with quite a few bells and whistles, as a demonstration for how far the design has come.

Roe, sounds like you attended Planeflyer's "Gift For The Missus seminar!" Other perfectly acceptable alternatives are Snap On hand tools, something GPSish, or anything having to do with horsepower or offroading.

If I had the money I sure would, but after a new bolt action .22, the wife's new M&P 9 and a new Benelli shot gun, I think my gun budget is tapped out this year. ::) I will probably have to be a year or so late... :'(

I think if Roe was to surprise his wife with any of those the surprise would be "on Him." Literally. I prefer giving wimmen softer things, like nightwear and pastry. If she doesn't like them, they don't hurt as much when they throw them back. 8)
