A buddy from Texas sent me this pic today. He wasn’t able to go, but a friend of his took this picture and sent it to him, and he sent it to me…

Look at the 336 “100 year anniversary gun”. Mint he says!

And my friend’s buddy said that right after he took the pic another guy walked up, bought it, and was bragging about the deal he just got.

I think I’m going to take all of mine to the Texas panhandle and set up at the next gun show. (No I’m not, but if that is the state of affairs, it sure is tempting.)
You are correct on the dishonest fog that has taken over gun shows. I live in northern Arizona and this obscene pricing and description is rampant everywhere I go. I quit gun shows about 5 years ago for this same reason.

I am no investment advisor. But simple investing or collecting 101. Adheres to the principal of buy low sell high. I’d say collectible Marlins have been for quite a while at a peak price. Obviously the purchaser of this 336 thinks they will keep going up forever. I don’t know maybe he is right. The thing about any collectible is that during economic hard times they’re almost worthless. Hopefully the guy has his mortgage paid off and he’s otherwise debt-free with more money than he needs to retire on.

I love going to the big show in my area! It is between 1500 and 3000 tables depending which time of the year AND FOR BONUS POINTS is only 20 miles from Philadelphia. Mainly Glocks (or Glock knockoffs more bonus points there), and every conceivable option to add 29 pounds to an AR! I know I know more bonus points. Not to mention the 100 or so people you hear from Jersey being told no you can't buy that particular gun because YOU JUST TOLD ME YOU LIVE IN NEW JERSEY! It is good exercise I see some cool old guns (not many---city gangbangers don't seem to appreciate single actions and leverguns like us RUBES!) I often find old cartridges or components that the city people never even heard of. I bought four boxes of the long discontinued Hornady 338 FP for my 33WCF there in the last couple of years, sizing dies, casting items as NOBODY there knows NUTHIN about casting bullets. Then all three of us jump in my crewcab (i drive, one buddy pays my way in and the other pays for chinese buffet on the way home) and we all go to a chinese buffet about 15 miles back towards home. Good way to spend the day and not much money because we don't usually buy guns there. Once 8 years ago I bought a police turn in Sand W 38 cause it was stuooopid cheap.

Even the BS Artists are bigger in Texas.
alright, settle down cowgirl ! I've been to gunshows coast to coast for the last 30years, and seen a lot higher prices from the dealers (and amateur dealers) who come from all around the nation to Tulsa! Prices there are 20-50% higher than the shows in the Dallas FT Worth area. There will be foolish people everywhere, but as the old country expression goes "the biggest liar you'll ever meet is looking back at you every morning when you shave" ;-)

I wanna follow you around.
Yeah, we all want the bargain that we know is half priced! Between political rants, regulatory insanity, inflation, supply chain, manufacturers bankruptcy, etc the last few years have been a whirlwind of pricing changes! Marlins and Remingtons are doing exceptionally well in my locale, other things in my gun safe and sale table, not so well! Believe me, I see plenty of guys walking the show trying to sell a 75% ( or worse ) Marlin for $$$ when my experience says its worth $ !

And that's all you got? A low grade insult to my masculinity? Try to do better next time.

Some people feel they have a moral obligation to separate fools from their money.
Some fools feel they have a moral obligation to be separated from their money.
It's a symbiotic relationship though I'm not sure what benefit the fools get out of it.

As always, Buyer Beware and also there is a fool born every minute. Shortly after moving to the country , met a friend who was an autioneer. Went to a consignment aution he was holding. Waited around til the Guns were up for auction (usually last to keep people interested), and after watching the Bidding wars on beat up but fairly newer guns, and watching the bids rise to much more than retail of a new one I told him I was gonna retire. I was going to go to Walmart and Dick's and buy everything I thought was of interest based on what I saw, take them home, tie them to the back of my ATV and drag them through the fields and then turn them over to him for the next auction.

Looks like they didn't spare the sandpaper in the tang area either.
I didn’t notice the sandpapered wood at the tang until you mentioned it!! A little dark brown caulking ought to take care of that. The real sad part of this situation is that there are people out there who are uneducated and will support idiots like this unethical dealer. Or maybe that dealer is also uneducated and “thinks” his product is worth the price he’s got it listed for?? Unbelievable!!!!

I wonder if all the vitriol expressed about over priced sellers can be said about all the buyers celebrating taking a seller to the cleaners??? I've been on both ends and I refuse to sell at gun shows anymore..people with Rolex taste on a Timex budget...I got tired of trying to sell fine firearms and buyers were lining up to buy junk black guns....case in point I had a nib browning bar Safari 30-06 for $800...took 4 shows to sell it....I gave up...I regret selling it....I have many stories like this...from sellers rifling through boxes of ammo to damaging firearms...trying to sell the same stuff to the same people week after week....why I use the internet now....now those same people who challenged my price on a $25 box of ammo I was selling that sold everywhere else for 40 to 50 dollars wishes I was there...love going to the rifle range and firing off my weatherby magnums and seeing their faces.... priceless

I don’t go to shows as much as I used to because it’s mostly tactical stuff that I’m not interested in. I see very few pre-lock S&Ws or Win 94s or Marlins.
BUT, occasionally I will get lucky and that’s why I bother going at all.
In the last 6 years I’ve bought a mint 1949 Win 94 in 32 Win Special for $500, a mint 1981 Detective Special for $400 and a mint with box 1978 Super Blackhawk for $600.
Small dealers had the Winchester & the Ruger. A guy that was just in front of me at the door had the DS.
Most shows I leave with nothing but ya never know what might pop up.
