Insanity, misinformation, or plain dishonesty? Aka Gun Show

Product Air gun Gun barrel Everyday carry Wood

A buddy from Texas sent me this pic today. He wasn’t able to go, but a friend of his took this picture and sent it to him, and he sent it to me…

Look at the 336 “100 year anniversary gun”. Mint he says!

And my friend’s buddy said that right after he took the pic another guy walked up, bought it, and was bragging about the deal he just got.

I think I’m going to take all of mine to the Texas panhandle and set up at the next gun show. (No I’m not, but if that is the state of affairs, it sure is tempting.)

At least he put some question marks after “unfired”! The price must be a typo (🙄) because even $575 is high for that thing. They must have sanded it with a brick and applied the finish with a live chicken!

Also, I don’t know much about model 39s, but is there ANY model 39 worth $3395??

Agree gun shows have gotten like garage sales, where junk and high prices are more commonly found, but there is still the occasional deal on a jewel to be found. Just takes more time and more patience.

Agreed, I think I got a great deal on the Winchester 75 made in 1948 for $350 and a blued finished Leupold VXIII 2.5x8 in the box for $275 at the 2 gun shows I went to this year.
I just view them as entertainment and sometimes find something of value, just like going to Cabelas gun library.

True. Two gun shows ago NIB Rossi 92 clones were going for $850 and up to $1250 depending on caliber and model. I got there two hours after it opened and right by the door was a minty 1978 336 Texan 30-30 with a price tag less than the Rossis.

All those guys caught up in the frenzy were buying the Rossis left right and center for more than msrp and ignoring the best deal there.

Needless to say, the Texan came home with me.

It looks like the sling was put in the correct spot. Right where Marlin locator was. (y).
The buyer deserves what he bought. Do research if you plan to spend that kind of money.

The furniture looks like it was sanded with a belt sander and dipped in dog crap, and that 12 gauge recoil pad is definitely needed on a 30-30, especially when you load up some rounds with a 700 grain tracer bullet and 95grs of H1000….those darn things hurt like the dickens!

….and the loading gate was definitely cold blued, I’m sure if you examined in person you’d find a lot more wrong with this $500 dollar “on a good day” gem.

I like how the carrier screw is backed about halfway out on a “Minty” rifle. That right there should be a red flag that the seller is an idiot.

Gun shows nowadays are just that. Shows. Stuff is either overpriced for condition(But it IS a _!) or completely overpriced regardless. Pay six bucks, walk in with a pocketful of money, look at 150 tables and walk out with the same pocketful of money. Any deals the dealers suck up before the doors crack.

Consider yourself lucky, the big shows here are charging around 12 bucks, that was a few years ago...

I haven't been to a gun show since Obummer's first term. Inflation hasn't helped any since fuel and meal costs mean I can almost order in what I need for the same cost and as a bonus I miss the crowds.

Shows here this year are $15 entry fee. One of them even charges parking fees. I stopped going to that one. Two and half hour ride, tolls, $15 to park, $15 to get in. Between gas, tolls, parking, entry and having to get lunch someplace during the day, I was spending $100 to go to that show without even buying anything.

Don't judge us all by the acts of a few. I have pretty much quit going to gun shows for the reasons discussed above. - T.S.
