Just for those of you who like to keep up with Henry rifles - I took a call today from Kevin at the tech shop at Henry. He has completed testing the cartridges that the Garrett cartridge company sent him, and the results are in. The Henry 45-70 rifle will handle the Garrett Hammerhead 420 Gr.+P cartridge with no problems, but the 540 grain is a no-go. He said that the pressures are too high, and the cartridge itself is too long to feed reliably in their rifle. Randy Garrett & company have been notified.
It's good to see cartridge companies and firearms companies working together to assure our safety - especially where the hunting of dangerous game is concerned.

I have also heard that the Hornady LEs are too long to chamber in the Henry rifles too. Thanks for that great report Tom T. I bought my wife a blued Henry 30-30 a couple years back and that is her favorite rifle. It is very well made and very accurate with factory 170 grain Winchester Super-X loads.
