It's hard not to love an L-Frame. Would you believe Barenjager doesn't own ANY? What's wrong with that boy? ??? :-X

Never thought much of the .357 for hunting and I always felt that little round was a good fit in a K-frame...

For hunting, I'll stick with my .44 N-frames...

But I do think the L-frame makes a nice .44 Special, ala 696, and would be extraordinary as a .41 Special.

I think S&W could make a lot of people happy by legitimizing the .41 Special, and bringing out a 5-shot 687 to shoot it in, with barrel lengths of 2.5, 3, and 3.5 inches.

I'd buy one. I still have my .41 Mag dies, just waiting for a reason to dust them off! 8)

Ohhhhhhhh, yea!

I have my 4" 686, it just does everything so well, I don't know that I'll ever get rid of it.

I've been tempted with the 696, I just can't justify another caliber to handload for.... but that's not so with the .41!!!

No need for those limits, PJ. One of the .41 Special's benefits...it will allow a full 6 shot capacity in an L-frame. Hamilton Bowen, among others, have been converting .357 L-frames for some time now.

A 200 to 220 grain slug at 900 to 1200 FPS...the wheelgun equivalent of the .40/10mm....but with sharp shoulders and wide metplats. Starline even made a 50,000 piece run of .41 Special headstamped brass not long ago, if cutting down .41 Mag brass is too much work.

Picture this...A 6 shot L-frame with a 3.5 inch tapered barrel (ala a Model 27), blackpowder cylinder chamfer, adjustable sights with a post front with gold bead, and wearing a nice set of Bearhug "Skelton" grips. A .41 Special L-frame "Mountian Gun" if you will.

Now that's an L-frame I'd be interested in.

If they made it the way you just designed it, I think I'd buy two. MAN that sounds awesome!

Mine would look like this.............or that.

Heresy, PJ, go slap yourself, how could even you ever improve on a Model 57 ?
Sheesh, next thing you'll be buying a gun named after some African animal, something puurrtty to sit next to all those Barbie guns with interchangeable underwear and socks and such-awl.
And Roe, I had thought you told me you had a 586 under the front counter ?
(Boy, I'm getting pretty uppity in my old age, challenging my handgun uncles.)
