I liked all 3 of them, I handled all three of them, felt the weight, worked the action, etc. and I have shot the Golden Boy in the past. It belonged to a friend of ours who came to one of our shooting events. Sweet rifle! Smooth shooter and accurate.

I am debating if I will get one or not... MM wants me to have another 22LR rifle since I shoot 22LR firearms the most now due to my hand issues.

I have my sweet Marlin Golden 39A -22LR, the Stevens Favorite single shot - 22LR made by Savage, the Ruger super single six - 22LR/22WMR and the Marlin 33C in 30-30.

He was going to buy it today but I could not make up my mind. Uh huh.

We hope to shoot at our range on Monday afternoon if all goes well too.

Decisions, decisions, decisions. If I DO get a HENRY - I plan on giving MM my Marlin 336C in 30-30 but I will still be able to use it IF need be. He has the Marlin 336SS in 30-30 plus the 45-70 Marlin. I gave him my second Marlin Golden 39A too.

Now, I have to make up my mind - to get one or not.

Henry's are great rifles I have one in 22 mag and I would never get rid of it. My 22 RF guns are Marlin 80's mostly because they can be found reasonable used. If I was looking for a RF new I would buy a Henry.

Be sure to Shoulder each one to see which one feels the best.

The Buttstock on the H001 and H001T have a different angle and hold than the H0014 Golden Boy.

The H001 is about 1" shorter and weighs about 1 lb less than the H001T Frontier and H004. So the H001 is a really handy 22 rifle.

The H004 is not Solid Brass,, but Brass Plate,, and for me,, that is just Bling,, but many like that,, and is the Prettiest. I have heard that some think the Golden Boy is so pretty,, that they are afraid to take it out of the house for fear of scratching it... ;D

I have the H001T Frontier,, and the 39A. They are different,, that's the best way that I can describe it. But I like them both and use them both. Can't really say which one I like the most though. I like the Marlin 39A,, cause it is built so strong and has Sling Swivels. But I like the Henry cause it is a little bit lighter, Shorter,, and seems just a tad bit handier.

Oh and The Sights are much better and upgradable on the H001T and The H004.

And just for the Record,, I'm not Advocateing or Promoteing getting a Henry either. But I do like my H001T Frontier.

What I've said probably hasn't helped you much,, so if you get a Henry,, get the one that Feels best to you,

I owned a Henry H001 and liked it but sold it when I got my Mountie. I have been recently looking at the Henry .22 Mag with the octagon barrel and will probably get one. They are good rifles for the money and they are made here in America, a plus in my book, Lonnie.

Have you looked at the H001L? If I got a Henry that'd be the one, as it has a 16" bbl and a large loop lever. I could see a little carbine like that coming in handy.

Oh, and why are you called the Minimalist?

I love my H001T. I have been playing around with a different front sight, something made quite easy with the 3/8" dovetail cut in the barrel. Waiting for a Bullseye ghost ring to see how it works with the cross hair front. I am hopeful..

I just looked at a Henry yesterday at Scheels.

I'm not sure what model it was. It had the brass receiver and a long octagon barrel with Marble's sights.
It was priced right in the mid $300's.
I liked it! (I already have 11 .22's, though)

I also looked at the Henry's. They sure didn't float my boat. I didn't like the feel, or how the stock fit me. I was a little disappointed in that everyone said how nice they were. I wasn't impressed.

I picked up a Henry Golden Boy at the store and it didn't fit me well either. The drop angle of the stock was way too much and so will never buy one. The Henry Frontier however has almost the exact angle as my 1894, and feels right to me. I wish the forearm had a little more meat on its bones, but other than that the one other beef I have with my Henry is that painted receiver cover. However, now with the implosion of Marlin, I have a gut feeling that 39A's are going to be increasing in price and most will not be coming out of the safe that much in the future. My Henry, even with its pretty walnut will never be in the same class as the 39 and thus will be out getting shot and dinged up as well. I would love to have a 39A, but can't justify any guns that I would value too much to take out and use. Those guns are going to become much more valuable, and likely out of my price range.. :'(

I have a gut feeling that 39A's are going to be increasing in price and most will not be coming out of the safe that much in the future.

A couple of months ago I 'mothballed' my 39A. Not really a conscious thing. I detail cleaned it and greased all of the interior moving parts with some super synthetic stuff I got. It's actually called 'Super Lube'. Looks like Vaseline in a tube, but I have had great luck with it on high wear parts.

Every time I go to shoot (which is no LESS than once a week) I almost grab my 39A - then I think to myself 'It's just too clean and pretty to go dirty up again'.

So I'll pull it out and have it sit with me for awhile so I can admire it. Then it goes back in the safe.

I have 2 Henry's but I agree with Lonnie that you should get the Henry Pump Octagon in .22 mag, since it would complement your Ruger Single-Six (unless you don't ever shoot mags, then get the .22 LR). But with your lever action and single action you are crying out for a pump to go with them. I have to admit as much fun as the lever 39A is, a pump is about the most fun you can have with a repeater rifle that is legal. I have been shooting my old Remington .22 pump lately and boy is that a kick. Plus the Henry with the Octagon barrel gives you that Old West touch we all love.

Hey....as mentioned, I just picked up a Henry, it was the H001 model, the plain jane, nothing fancy model.....I am quite please with her, smoothest action I have ever worked. For me, I just wanted a knock around, .22 truck gun. I have to admit, I was tempted to go with pump.

Mine is very light, acurate, and a hoot to shoot. 39's are rare here, people just don't give them up and the stores can't keep them long enough and the stores have been getting a little proud with their prices.

So, the 22 Henry went home with me and I no regrets and a whole lot of fun!!!

I have the H001 and H001M and love both of them! They are about as economical as you can get in a .22 lever action and the customer service from Henry is unrivaled. Lifetime warranty whether you are the original purchaser or not.

If you have a problem with your hands I would recommend you stay with the H001 because of the weight and balance. I have neuropathy and osteoarthritis in my hands and I can handle the Henry's just fine.

My dilemma is whether to shoot one of those or my Marlin 981T when I go out target shooting.

I am considering the same Catherine. I bought my son the H001L about 7 years ago if I remember correctly. He has quite a gun family for someone in their mid-twenties including a Marlin CBC .45 colt that he deer hunts with. He's a serious birdhunter and has an assortment of fine shotguns. You ask my son what his favorite gun is and he'll tell you that Henry H001L.

Now for me, the H001L and any Golden Boy won't be considered because the H001L is just tooooo short for my personal tastes and the GB just doesn't feel right though I have never shot one. I am considering the Frontier as I like the octagon barrel and it feels really good in my hands. I would however be happy with their H001 model as well. Whatever I get, I will also order the large loop as an accessory from Henry.

Good luck with your pick ... I don't think you can go wrong .

I'm going to Ask Santa to bring me one of those Big Loop Lever's for my Frontier this coming Christmas. I had been thinking about it,, and sometime's,, the regular lever,, just feels a little bit cramped.

Thank you for all of the information and I apologize for getting back here 'late'. I had to get some important papers and post office mail finished first.

I did not get to see a Henry PUMP rifle - just the 3 that I mentioned that were in lever action styles in my first post. I will call around and see if any other stores have Henry rifles IN stock too. MM looked for me the other day 'outside' of our college town and he could not find any. We did see the 3 that I mentioned in the one store here in town - the former SW store. My local small store does not have any in stock to look at either.

The PUMP action sounds COOL but I did not see any of these in the store. I never shot one of those styles or 'pump actions' in a rifle. I will have MM explain this to me too. Please excuse my ignorance there - I have never had the opportunity to see or shoot one in person. I never noticed them in a store either.

If I do get another rifle and in a HENRY brand... I will get it in a 22LR caliber since that is the caliber that I shoot 95% of the time now. I shoot 22LR in my Ruger super single six too. I don't shoot WMR, I hardly ever did shoot it, but I think that we have a tiny amount of it left here among tons of 22LR ammunition. I deliberately want to keep my firearm calibers the same for my ammunition stock. His, hers and ours 22LR ammunition stock.

Plus 22LR ammunition is much cheaper for me to shoot compared to 22WMR too.

I know that I do adore and love to shoot lever action and single shot rifles... I still like that Sharps style in 22LR.

To the one poster who asked me a question about why I call myself a minimalist.

I am a minimalist in my lifestyle more and more.

In some things in life, I always believed and still believe that Less Is More.

So I keep going back to certain specific styles/actions of My Favorite Firearms and I shoot 22LR the most now due to my arthritic hands and old accident issues. So compared to what I used to own and shoot in ALL kinds of various calibers... I am a minimalist there too!

You have my sincere sympathy when it comes to your hand issues.

I am happy that I can still shoot but I take more 'breaks' now when I do shoot. I never used to do that even in the cold weather! I used to just switch from a bigger caliber to 22LR and back again!

Plus I want to keep up my self defense skills even if it is with using a 22LR caliber firearm the most now.
