Floating beaver is day shot. Typically I had a very small window of opportunity until now

I totally agree. I liked it knowing it was beaver. Not knowing and for most, it's a great dish.

Beavers belong to the rodent suborder Castorimorpha, along with Heteromyidae (kangaroo rats and kangaroo mice), and the gophers. Modern beavers are the only extant members of the family Castoridae.

Red dots work very good for my old eyes, I just discovered them as I don't really like scopes but i do like my peep sights.

Would be advantageous if you could mod the scope mount and get it to sit about an inch lower. Failing that, a strap on cheek riser is your huckelberry.
I've used .22LR (head shots), 9mm carbine (head shots), and a 22-250 chest shot, (makes a huuuuuggge hole). All were effective. Wanted to try the 44-40, but ran out of Beaver. Go Figure!
