I just got my first Marlin, 1895 sbl and I need some advice on factory ammo. I will be reloading, but not yet. Does anyone have any experience with HSM ammo? I am looking at their 405 grain for target practice and for deer hunting. I have read that cowboy action ammo can leave lead behind in the barrel and foul it quickly if it is not hard cast, but I am not sure if this brand is hard cast or not. I emailed the company about 2 weeks agowith this question, but I have not heard back from them. Any advice on this would be appreciated, I am new to the 45/70 and trying to learn as much as possible.

I used HSM 430 grain 45/70 in my 1895 Remlin and it was great ammo. It was not Cowboy loads.

I have a boatload of HSM ammo and think it’s perfect for what you’re trying to do.
