Did the hammer spur come with it or did you put it on? Does the spur have JM on it in a circle? If so, they are highly desirable and would add some value to it.
What do you mean by proof mark exactly? I'm honestly thinking it wasn't fired because there's absolutely no residue on it whatsoever, but you're probably right. I didn't think about that.
It seems lately everytime I try to post something it screws up.
What I started to write was I'm in the clean it and shoot it camp.
I can't but I think someone that can could be willing to sell you a boix of cartridges so you can shoot your play with your new toy.

It's not rare as far as production numbers go, but it is rare in its condition for its age and the fact it has the original matching box and serial #. I would put its value between $1500 -$2000, assuming it is unfired, after leaving the factory.
If I came across this kind of a deal, I would probably sell it for as much as possible, and find a slightly used one as my "shooter". Pocket the difference and still have a great JM marlin 30-30. No safe queens allowed at my house!!
