I'm looking to buy a model 1894 in .45Colt and was wondering how far back has Marlin being making it? 1960's?

I have searched for an answer and can't find any real info on the one's made in .45C

I would rather buy an old JM model rather then one of the new rifles.

The original 1894 began production in -- well, 1894! Later it was discontinued, but eventually the modern 1894 was introduced in the '60's. Can't recall the exact dates, but the CS version with the cross-bolt safety was introduced about 1979.

The round barrel 1894S in .45 Colt was made from 1988-1990 so predates the Cowboy by several years. If you find one made before this is it likely a prototype (unlikely) or a conversion.

One just sold on GB, a 1998 like new with original box and papers. Final bid was $647. Item# 783589560

ETA: Just looked at the pics again and it's a 2002, not 1998 as it was listed.
