Ok 1895ers, respectfully request your pet loads using the Hornady 4502s, the 350 grain soft points. Came across a great buy on some and needless to say I will be shooting these for a while. Currently have some Reloader 7 on hand but have access to IMR 4198 too if I need it. Will be using misc. brass with CCI Large Rifle primers.

Would like to know your charge and velocity, either what you think it is out of the muzzle or what you may have actually measure it at. Maybe even what you've taken with it game wise, if any, or what your success on the range has been.

Thanks!

I have not fooled with the 4198 or rl7 so much in my 45-70 loads yet. I do have some of the powder but lately have been so excited about 3031 loads with jacketed bullets I have not looked elsewhere. I would look at published loads in the manuals and consider what you want out of the bullet. IMR 4198 can be loaded from trap door loads to slobber knockers. if you want to see what the expert says get a copy of Ken Waters Pet loads, he has tested almost every powder and every bullet made for this rifle.

The case is nice and full, recoil is brisk to say the least, did I mention it is crazy accurate? :)

50.0 grains of Re7 under Hornady 350. R-P cases and WW larger rifle primers. Chronos 2018 fps from my XLR.
Watch loads with IMR 2198 vs H4198. Different powders.

I have had great success with:
350 Hornady
WW brass
CCI 200 primers
47 grains of IMR4198
Shoots a chronoed 1955 fps avg out of my 22 inch 1895 and does pretty little cloverleafs @ 100 yds but will let you know if you have any loose fillings.

41.5 grains IMR-4198
Average 1700 fps out of an 18.5 inch barrel XLR. This is a really accurate and easy shooting load. I tried heavier loads, but went back to this one. It does everything I need.
