Any experience/thoughts on this particular bullet/load (factory for now) versus the Remington 240? I know this load is better shooting, what is the difference in bullets; retention, etc... on deer/hogs. Shooting a 1970 Model 444 with the Microgroove, TruGlo 3-9x40 Maxxus scope. I shoot the FTX 325gr (factory)out of my Handi Rifle w/ the TruGlo 45/70 Maxxus "BDC" for this load and love it.

I think you'll find that all around the 265 gr is a much better bullet. There are bullet tests on this site comparing various 44 cal. bullets in the 444 Marlin, and consistently the 265 gr Hornady FP is the best of the jacketed bullets. The 240 gr Remington is a good bullet for lighter game, but I have basically started using the 265 gr for all my hunting.

The 265 Grn Hornady has been very accurate in my rifle and have been loading them for years. I myself would never got lighter, but would liike to start using some of the 300 grn A frames. Barne or the cast bullets. Use a bullet that is going to hold together, and the lighter ones I have never heard great things about.

In case some of you might not know, MidwayUSA now has the 444 superperformance in stock. The way these things work these days, I'd recomend anybody interested in this loaded ammo, get it while the getting is good. To my understanding, the 444 superperformance is a seasonal run product which means once it is gone, it might be a long wait till it becomes available again. If you plan to hunt with this ammo, I suspect it might be hard to come by around fall.

I just looked on there. The stuff is expensive and I was able to buy 300 of the 265 gr FN bullets which were also hard to get. I'll just continue to load my own.

I bought a box of the new Hornady 444 Superperformance ammo, not because I need it, but rather because I wanted to show my support for Hornady's decision to bring back the 265 FP in loaded ammuntion. I got on Hornady's case when they stopped making the Light Mag round. When they decided to bring out the ammo in the Superperformance line, I wrote Hornady and expressed my appreciation for their decision. Simply put, I put my money where my mouth is.
