My father turned 60 this weekend and decided to give me one of his rifles. Its a 1988 336AW in pretty good condition and its my first firearm. I guess me getting him 28 laps in a Dale Jarrett race car at Lowes Motor Speedway put him in a generous mood. :) He purchased it around 20-30 years ago and never fired it, even though he bought it used. Its been in the garage ever since.

Anyways, he knew that I am getting into hunting and that I spent last season with a compound bow. I grew up around my father's firearms, but really only have any experience with handguns (a lot) and shotguns (some clay shooting). I'm looking forward to learning about my (new to me) rifle and taking it to the range. Thanks again for all the great information on this site. Its going to help a lot to keep me safe and the rifle to last a long time!

Thanks everyone! There is an indoor 25yd range in town that I think I am going to stop by Thursday, as long as I can pick up a cleaning kit beforehand.
