Great web site and forums! Just bought my first lever action rifle this afternoon. Came home to read more about it on the web. I purchased a pre-owned Marlin 30 AS that came with a Browning sling, a BSA 4X-32 Deerhunter scope, and a Slip-On padded but stock from Pachmayer. It was manufactured in 1998 and is in like new condition. Bought it for $325. Seems like a good deal.
I've read some good things in the forums about the 30AS and am looking forward to hitting the range in the next few days. The last few years I've been using a Ruger M77 Mark II in 300 Win Mag. Last year out at Fort Robinson (northwest Nebraska) I caught myself wanting a lighter, shorter rifle when I was walking an abandon railroad tracks with thick brush. I think the Marlin will be the perfect rifle for something like this.
