Checking in for price update. Looking at a coupe JM stamped guide guns on Gunbroker. One looks to be in mint condition for a "Buy It Now" of $1600 and the other has some wear and tear with bidding starting at $1,300 and a "Buy It Now" of $1,700. What are yal's thoughts? Is $1,600 for a mint condition 1895G about right??

In my opinion that’s a bit on the high side.

Thanks for the input. Looks like a brand new 1895G goes for under $1k. I understand and appreciate the older JM stamped models, but at a certain point, I'm not sure if the little JM stamp is worth that much of a premium. I hear really good things about the new line of Marlin firearms. It seems the ugly days of the Remlin guns have passed. Thoughts? Get a new 1895G or a JM stamped 1895G for 50% more?

IMO, IF you can find a clean JM 1895G for about the same price (or even a little more) than a new Ruger/Marlin model, I'd take the JM. But I surely wouldn't pay a premium like $1600 unless you're just stinking rich and the cost is irrelevant. For THAT kind of dough, the Ruger is the better deal.

That's the input I'm looking for. Appreciate it. I may bid on the one that is currently at $1,200 but much more than that seems like a price gouge.

I'd say $1600 is a bit high for a G. $900-$1200 is what I've been seeing for the JM stamped 1895G and I have been watching several times a day because I'm looking for a JM stamped 1895 GBL at the moment. Now, if you could find the stainless JM stamped 1895 GS for $1600 you'd be doing good(y)

A couple of weeks ago I did get to handle a couple of Ruger made Marlin's and I have to say that yes, they are nice, but no, I do not prefer the feel of them to my JM's. I didn't like the skinnier hand guard on the Ruger's and the action didn't have the same feel to it eighter. Just my opinion though, I'll stick to chasing after the JM's.

Interesting. I have an 1866 Winchester Yellowboy which is a pretty heavy rifle. After holding it, then picking up my Winchester 1892 carbine, I almost throw it out of my hands inadvertently because it's soo light compared to the 1866. I do appreciate some heft to a rifle, so I can appreciate the thicker stock on the JM guns as well.

Just picked up my new-to-me 2001 JM ported 1895G. It’s in better condition than I expected! I won the GunBroker auction at $1,225 which I think is pretty fair considering the condition and current market. I just checked and people are wanting $1,600 and up for Remlins and non-ported JM rifles. I think I did good!

A couple more pics of it. It has some scuffs and whatnot on it, but I always like a bit of patina on my working rifles. I put a Ranger Point Precision peep sight on it along with a saddle ring. Excited to get it to the range for sighting in and then in the scabbard for it's true "guide gun" purpose.

Looks pretty freaking mint to me! Very nice!

ps. Here's a great link to top rust prevention products. There was a similar one by Brownells but with less products, but I can't find it anymore.
Both had similar results. WD-40 may be a poor lubricant, but it's a FANTASTIC rust preventative.

FWIW, I've used WD-40 as an exterior wipe down on all my guns for 40 years now, and NEVER had a spec of rust on any of them.

Costs so much, can't bring myself to buy in bulk. What I DO is order a 2-3 boxes every few months. Sitting on something like ~300 rounds atm... slowly building up a reserve.
