Hi everybody. Just joined so I can learn more about my Marlin lever action. Been shooting for years, mostly precision rifle and finally scratched the itch to own a lever action. Ended up finding a good deal on a JM stamped 1980 336 in 30-30 that was a safe queen so I guess I am now on team 30-30. Really excited to learn more about these rifles and kept finding myself coming back to this forum as I did my research so I decided to join. Lots of old threads to read and catch up on so I can get the most out of my rifle. Plan on using it as a brush gun for deer here in Arizona while chasing the wily little Coues Whitetails they have down here.

So far I have decided to add a Skinner express peep and will try my hand at tooling my own leather butt stock sleeve. I am sure I made the right choice in getting the 336 because my kid already said he wants it the day I shed this mortal coil. Sucker.... he's going to be waiting awhile. Looking forward to getting the rifle out this weekend and seeing how it does with various brands and weights of ammo.

You're certainly at the right place to learn about Marlins. Show off that 336 here when you get a chance. I prefer the pre-safety models like yours myself. The Skinner sight is a good choice as well. Welcome from Kentucky!

Thanks guys. This place is great. I already learned about the Marlin bullseye and that my new to me rifle is missing one. I just thought it was weird that someone tried to drill a sling stud hole so big, especially since there was already a sling stud further back towards the toe. Come to find out its for a "bullseye". Ha, I'm finding out all kinds of neat things about these rifles. Crap, now I'm going to have to go find some pistol caliber lever guns too!
