Some Marlins have the stamped lettering on the barrels highlighted in gold (paint?).

Does this indicate old, new, pre-Remington, post-Remington, or was it done done catch-as-catch-can?

Oh ok. Someone else on these forums said that Cowboy models were all produced prior to the Rem take over. True?

Marlin at one time, did use gold paint on their lettering, as I recall, on the 39a Mounties perhaps, but the gold lettering thing is so easy to do, it used to be "in style" and one would see all sorts of guns done that way. Point being, if a M120 for example had it, or maybe an earlier 39A, it was likely done by the owner.

I might be wrong, but I do not think Marlin did it for many years nor models.
