Got a good deal on a brand new 336 BL and took off the big loop (don't really like the look anyway, just not my thing) and the laminated stock (too heavy) and sold them both on ebay. Both those items are going for a premium and paid for more then half of the rifle. Picked up a nice birch stock set and regular replacement lever, and instant 18 1/2 30-30 truck/ATV gun. I am into it for not very much money and less then I could have found a used one for. I like the look of the shorter rifles and this was quick and easy.

I don't understand but I'm glad you like it ;D .DT
I like the short barrels and to take a used one and cut it down gets expensive and you have to worry about it being done right. It is nice to have the factory crown. This was the perfect compromise and one more connecticut marlin in the safe.

I am glad that you like the way your project turned out. There is something satisfying about taking a rifle and making it your own. I like short barreled rifles myself and do not like the big levers either. I do prefer the short barreled guns to have straight stocks but am not as adamant about that as I once was. I hope that this new rifle becomes one with which you make many happy memories of hours in the field and good friends at the camp.

How much heavier is the set of Lams compared to the wood? Sounds like the smart way to get what you want on the cheap. Good job! DP

Thats right about if it makes you happy. Youll carry and shoot it more.Im not much on the real short barrels but they have there place. And its like my old 35 crazy horse, you can pick it out of the crowd.Im like Abel though. Got a thing about my slings. Them sling tabs need to go ;) or at least be tied up.Good luck with your new pet. And tell us how it shoots. Gunrunner,,

The gun looks great. I checked out the BL and liked the 18.5 inch barrel but felt the stock was way too heavy. Kinda like the big loop. Thought I would look for a used gun with an 18.5 barrel. In any case, it looks like something that Marlin made in the 70's, no frankinstine.
