Surprised to find this at a local FFL. Seems like a nice handy little rifle. I was planning on getting one of the new 1894's in 44 when Ruger starts producing, but who knows when that will be, and they will probably be selling for $1K over MSRP for a while, So, decided to take this home instead!

Already had the Skinner on it, and I removed the front sight hood. I have a Weaver 1-3X I may mount on it.

Wow, that is one heck of a find to happen upon, congrats!

That appears to be in pristine condition, I'd be inclined to bring it home as well. Nice snag!

Did you get it for less than what the gougers are fetching for them on GB?
Yes, from what I can tell. I am watching one on Gunbroker right now that is almost over. It's currently about $250 more than I paid, but does look to be in slightly better condition from that I can tell in the pics.

Mrbumps, I'm the lucky winner of the one you were watching on gunbroker, I bit the bullet and cast my bid, more than I wanted to pay by a few hundred, but it is in perfect shape minus the factory box. I could never find another like it, it will look nice setting with my 444p and 1895gs in the gun rack. I've always wanted one and had to pull the trigger on it! Pics will come as soon as I recieve it in a week or two!

Congrats! To be honest, I thought that would go higher. They are getting harder to find, so I think prices will remain high. And no matter what the MSRP is on the new 1894's due this year, they will probaby sell for north of $2K for a while.

I woud love a 444P myself. I have the new 1895 Trapper in 45-70, and I have the 336D which is the Trapper version in 35 Remington. I love these short barreled, fast handling guns.

Yes thought it was going to go higher as well, I never dreamt I'd get it, but luckily I gave it a shot. I have a 444p that I just recently bought , it was a safe queen, it has been fired , but not many rounds. It's perfect. Next on my list is a 336D , I've been looking but cant see anything out there the last few monthes, I love the short barreled rifles as well!

Congrats! You will NOT regret it. I've got a super clean 1894p as well, that shoots MOA with WWB 240 grain JSP. One of my favorite rifles! The first time I ever saw an 1894p (maybe 10 yrs ago) was at a gunshow... I really wanted it, but I had never seen one before so I passed on it, thinking that $800 seemed a little steep. >.< Back then you could still find the usual 1894 in .44 for $600ish.

Spent the better part of a year after that tracking one down, and it cost me $850, but I wouldn't sell it for twice that much. I love the way the magazine tube is dovetailed to the barrel instead of the usual clamp.
