I think it will look okay once the wood is refinished. I think this is the first Texan I've seen for sale. Got a little shorter barrel but in the shape of the wood think it should be around $250 at least unless these are rare! That a decent deal?

How much is your happiness worth? How bad do you want it? Is fifty bucks worth however many years of enjoyment you'll get from it?

A good deal is defined by the buyer and what others think don't matter much.

Neat little gun, sounds like the wood could use some sprucing up and $250 is probably fair but I don't think I'd let $50 stand in the way if it were something I really liked. I haven't seen too many 30 gt's floating around here and if I came across one, I'd likely pay the $300. Better grab it if you wan't it cause someone else will gladly pay the $300!

My brother has a 1980 model that he bought from a woman who's husband had bought it new. It's in almost pristine shape, came with a sling, scope and soft case and he got it for $250. But that's a deal most folks won't come across. If it needs refinished, I would think $250 would be better, but in the grand scheme of things, what's another $50. If you want it, get it.

Around me that is a good price. Don't know where you live, but Marlins/Glenfields seem to bring more around here. I have been trying to get a Glenfield 30A with a short mag tube that is setting in a pawn shop for $300, covered with surface rust, 40% of the finish is gone, and he will only drop $25. Has Marlin's in better shape with end caps and full length tubes priced for less. ??? Keeps telling me it's rare. All depends on what you are comfortable paying, I bought the first 35 Rem I saw in several years at a gun show, paid more than others would have, but it was what I wanted and worth it to me. I say go for it at 250, if they say no, offer more. DP

I would not worry about getting it for a better price. $250 vs $300? Come on. You're talking $50. That's a steak dinner that is gone in 40 minutes. A Marlin is forever. The 30GT is a collector too. It is rare. You likely won't see another one for a long time. I found a $300 30TK for sale in a used gun store and I gladly paid the price for this rare K-Mart Texan.

The Glenfields with the short mag tubes are 30's not 30A's. I bought one a while back that had a pretty badly beat stock for $260. I redid the stock with bed liner, christened it Darth Vader, then sold it.

Ditto. Marlin prices have been climbing like crazy. Marlins I use to get for $180 - $290 all have asking prices of $350+ now. Guess our secret is out.

If you want it grab it. I don't see prices coming down. You'll always have members here to sell it to in the future.

IMHO, when you're dealing with a very common gun like a 336C or something, it makes a lot of sense to ask around about "what's it worth." That way, you don't jump on a nice looking gun for $500 when you can easily get one as good for $400 or less. But when you're dealing with scarce, really cool guns like the GT, I'd just say the value of the gun is whatever someone's willing to pay for it. (Isn't that deep?) I'd happily pay way more than $300 for a good GT, so to me, one priced at $300 seems like unbelievable luck. To others, I guess it might still seem a bit high, since the gun isn't "worth" all that much according to the books and so forth. But I'm looking like crazy for a GT, and I can't find one at any price I can manage to afford. Actually, today, I can't fine one at any price period.

(And if any of you fine folks happen to have one you're looking to unload, you can certainly read this post as a hint that I'm interested in helping you out on that.)

Thanks for the clairification Hal. I was goin off memory, not the thing to do with me anymore. So with surface rust on every metal part, do you feel it's worth 275? The wood, no problem, I like what you did with yours, would like to do the same on one. DP

Just yesterday I was the successful bidder on GunBroker for a Glenfield 30GT.
The rifle was described as being 95%, and looked clean in the photos.

I seriously wanted this rifle and ended up paying over $400 for it and was glad to get it. Sure, paying less would have made me happier but sometimes things just don't happen thay way. I liked the short barrel and straight stock, etc.,etc. But, as I said, I wanted this rifle, and for a special purpose.

I year from now the extra dollars spent won't matter. However, if I hadn't bought
it , I would be kicking myself.

Okay at whatever price I'm going to get it if still there. I was there at almost closing time Sat. so hopefully it's still there. I was there getting a 1951 336 SC 35 that turned out to be a pretty good gun. Got it for $380. Just happened to stop in and find them both. Had my wife with me the first time so two rifles then was a no no! You know? Great buy Trapper, just read your post. I'm going to look at yours. I'm sure it's much nicer than this one.

the Glenfield has a new home... with me! Got it for $295 out the door. And turns out was better than I thought. Metal looks barely used. Just have to refinish the birch deer and leaves! Can't wait to go shoot it.
