Just returned from my annual Florida hog hunt. Never fired a shot. Arnold would not come out and play until midnight or later as the trail cam showed. Has Arnold learned that thou shall not hunt after dark in Florida or did that huge full moon have something to do with it or what?

Probably both. I see it all the time. Some sounders only move around at night and will never step into even a red LED light. Others are diurnal and just run right in at noon like no one has ever pestered them. But once pestered they go nocturnal. Most boars are the same and mostly/nearly always move at night.

Panama City FL at my lease plot, roll barrel, feeder and tether ball feeder..Alot of night activity but they come out daytime too. Use a green Kill light at night not red and they don't mind it

I'm an hour inland of Fernandina.
The moon plays a part in it, the heat may play a part in it, the food sources play a part in it, water (or lack there-of) is also a big influence around here, and hunting pressure definately plays a part in it.
I can watch a sounder hit a feeder on my cameras every day like clockwork, but shoot just one out of it and they disappear (or go completely nocturnal) for weeks.

I watched a "florida Hog Hunt" today on Savage Wild. Ol Manny had speared one finally and was following it up. He had a spear in each hand, and was explaining how he would drop one and fend off the boar when/if it charged. Well, he go to bulshooting pretty good, they came up on the hog and that sucker charged him, Ol Manny dropped one spear, and dithered with the other and the boar eat him up! ha. It could have killed him as it showed the boar made a swipe about Femoral Artery Level. That's a bad place to get cut needless to say, w/o having a trauma team ready. His buddies helped him out, not one had a pistol. He was cut bad on the legs and one arm. I'm sorry, but this is more a stunt to me than a legitimate hog hunt, but hey, the guy has to make a TV show,ha. I always have a pistol of some kind, and in black bear country or hog country, minimum is a 1911 with Buffalo Bore +P230 JFN, but usually my 45 colt and 270 hardcast. Heck, Ol Manny would have been better off with a Cold Steel Trail Master bowie or a tomahawk for follow up, ha!

Hi preacher, I agree with you that he should of had more tools than just a spear. A handgun or rifle should have been on him. You never know when a hog will charge you or a bear appear. He also should of had a emergency kit to stop the bleeding. Marla

Getting cut up by a hog would be bad enough but think of the infections he could get.
David sorry the hogs won this time. Feel free to go back with a vengence :)

I've had them all around me, but never been charged, which was great by me! I was always at least .5 mile from the truck and ten miles from town, which had no doctor either! ha. I have seen many dogs, horses, and people get cut up though. One of the worse wounds on a freind was by a big sow, she chewed on his leg pretty good. Puts a 'thrill" in the hunt, don't you agree? ha

Speaking of Hog Hunts my son is coming to Vero Beach before his deployment to Afganistain. He wants to go Hog hunting and besides Wildlife Refuge lands I can find no where to take him. Any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, SeanO

Try and get in touch with any Outfitters or private Land hunt operators in your area, it will be worth the money to spend time with your Son! Most hog hunts are reasonably priced too. Anyplace that outfitss for exotics will usually have hog hunts available too. God Bless, my daughter spent a month in Bagram with the Air Force spooks. Shake your son's hand for me? God bless.

Wild hogs can be very dangerous, especially when hurt or threatened! I've seen 'em charge and knock someone on their butt and then try to get at 'em with their cutters, charge a buggy full of hunters and plow into the tires, tear up/kill dogs...they are nastyanimals! Manny is full of himself and one day is gonna get it good IMO! I understand being a showman, but you gotta have a brain to go with the balls God gave you or else sooner or later the hog's gonna win...BIG TIME!

Those TV people aren't going to be satisfied until they get one of those bone headed "hog hunters" killed on television.
