"factory" load for our 1894 44mag?

:?: My son has been using 240gr pistol bullets ( I don't know off hand the brand)and is a dead on shot out to an easy 100 yards. He is going to use it foe deer and antelope this year and is concerned that it may be a bit light(bullet). He tried some 270 "Hunting" shells and found they were not as accurate as the 240's. Last week he used a box of Premium 250gr'ers.They seamed to be good but shot WAY high, he could shoot a good group((3")240's run a 2" group) but 10" high at 100y.I wanted to check with you guys be for he re sights in to the 250's is the extra 10gr worth the effort and expense( there x3 the price)We will be reloading soon but not before Hunting season.

You'll get as many opinions as posters. My opinion is that whatever shoots accurately, and is 240gr., should do the job. White box 240's work for me. Rem. Corelokt reloaded 240's work very well also. Premium in my opinion isn't necessary at these velocities. I wouldn't, however go below 240gr.

When I still had my 1894 I used the Remington 240 gr. SJHP on deer and 150-200 lb. hogs without problems.

Those Federals are sweet, but my, my....they sure are proud of 'em! 28$$ a box of 20 around here. You can almost get Garretts for that.
