What do you guys think, is a Marlin 27 with a low 3 digit serial number, worth more than a 27 with a 5 digit serial number, all other factors being equal? Or is it irrelevant?

a good question - for me, it would be only relevant if I was an exclusive Model 27 collector. Condition is the critical factor, and as you state "if all things equal", a low serial number (potentially indicating first year production) may add a slight premium if it meant a year missing in your collection, or a special feature was noted for that variation, otherwise not. For a Model 27, a low serial number "premium" would mean <= $50...

I doubt a 3 digit would add anything to a Model 27's value. Now maybe a 1 digit, or a low 2 digit might. In fact I'm sure a 1 digit would add a lot!
