Does anybody remember IMR 8208 XBR anymore? well I bought a bottle before the release of LVR powder. If I remember correctly the IMR 8208 XBR was the powder to try before LVR was available.

Well I just got around to loading with it for the 308ME. I uses the HDY. #8 book and it shows data for the IMR 8208 XBR 160gr. FTX 308ME bullet. WLR. HDY. cases. Start @ 35.0gr. max @ 37.7gr Okay Made 5 each 35.0gr., 36,0gr, 37.0gr, 37.5gr., 37.7gr.[]
At max. charge 37.7gr. print velocity is 2500fps out of a 308MX 22" barrel so it should be at 30 fps for every additional inch of barrel length. So my 308XLR according to print I should be in the 2560fps area.
Sorry but I don't have a chronograph yet but it is on my wish list. My concern at the moment is accuracy and pressure.

Can I get any thoughts or experience on this load since this load data is offered in print from Hodgdon too.

I've never even seen that powder in stores around here.

Looking at the load data, it doesn't look like a powder that would be useful for anything I currently load.

I bought IMR 8208 XBR for the 30 30 & 308me. But it will not go to wast it can be uses with the 338me and will give max vel. 2350fps. I know the LVR is doing better vel. wise but I got it and will make the best of it. Who knows it might be an accurate powder. As far as deer hunting a 338 cal 200 gr. FTX bullet flying out of the muzzle at 2350fps must still be going 2200fps at 100 yards, something tells me it won't bounce off a black bear or a deer.

I live 30 miles from Powder Valley and with my truck getting 15miles per gallon of diesel and with diesel costing 3.89 a gallown thats $15.56 for fuel down and back. I have to save up so I can buy a lot of things from them to make it cost effective.

[/quote]This is true $31.12 round trip. Well I guess the best way is to buy in bulk. If you bought your supplies locally you will probable pay more than powder valley. I certainly would pay a few bucks more for one pound of powder locally rather than make that trip. If I was in your place I would make a once a year list of primers, powders, bullets etc. To be honest it wouldn't cost that much of a different if you buy in bulk and have it shipped ups ground, it would be a wash. it would probable cost $25. haz-mat and $10 to ship =$35 to the door for all your supplies.

I thank you for your in put but I would like to know who uses IMR8208XBR and personal experiences.

I am using IMR8208 in 308 Win, 45-70, 30-30, and soon in 257Roberts, 30-06 and 243 Win. Meters better than Varget and a little faster.

Great what kinda results are you getting? And are you following printed data or you own?

It's 30 miles to the LGS here.

8208 sounds interesting. I might want to see if I can find any .303 Brit data for it.

Accuracy in 308 Win equals Varget in my Ruger Hawkeye RSI, around MOA. 45-70 loads are working good with the Ranch Dog 350gr, shoots as good as I do with a 2X scout scope and I run out of shoulder before running out of case capacity. Jury is out on 30-30 because I'm playing with LVR too with the RD 165gr. I don't trust the ball powders temperature sensitivity so will probably stick to 8208 for 30-30 too.
Well worth trying just because of the way it goes threw a powder measure, I like loads that shoot 1" groups or better without weighing each charge. Hybrid 100V does this in 257 Roberts, but Hodgedon says it is like the ball powders temperature wise.
I use Hodgedon data from their website, I would use other brand powders if they had better data for free. I think Sierra, Nosler, Hornaday, Barnes, Speer and the others should give it up and quit trying to get people to buy books.

Heck I remember H570 and wish I could find some, but it's been extinct for 30 years.

Well been to the range today and had 3 different calibers to work up 308ME -IMR8208XBR, 356W-H4895 , 35 Rem.-H4895
All loaded with the FTX bullet and all had excellent accuracy at 50 yards. Today was just a test day.
