I just found one late 50's maybe in decent shape and I may run trade one of my many 30-30s for it. I like the looks of the 20 inch barrel with the shorter mag tube. Just wondering. Asking $389 for it and has a 28mm maybe 4x Bushnell scope on it. Thanks for any replies.

All the 336 SC's have a short tube regardless of caliber. Its what makes them a SC (Sporting carbine) But the 35 Rem was available in 336SC, 336A and is still available in the 336C or RC.

Thanks guess I didn't realize that. I want it. Going now. Looks older and good shape and with a little stock tru oil treatment will be a classic! Oh and the mag tube is a little loose at the end. I assume that's an easy fix?

I like the SC's. Theres a screw on the underside of the tube that secures the tube & cap to a stud dovetailed into the barrel. If its loose its probably just that screw needs to be socked down. I'd remove it & put some blue loktite on it so it stays put, though they arent normally problematic. How old is the gun? You know you need to post pictures if you do buy it right? ;D

I'm thinking it was around a 57 model maybe. Looked at several with glazed over marlinitis eyes, you know how that is. And seemed to have sort of perch or pot belly foregrip with an end cap. Dark walnut will look great freshend up a bit. Blueing looks to be around 85 to 90 % and rifling has no pits maybe just a little dirty. They close at 4 so got to get couple chores done and run over there. They are about 20 miles away. Need a friend for my 30 TK short mag tube gun! And I'll post of both. Never have done that. Meant to before. Thanks.

Grab that SC and please enamour us with some pictures. Price seems to be fair and a little TLC should bring it back to life or simply clean it up and enjoy all it's flaws. What a great little timber gun it will make for you.

well it's a 51 model and pretty decent shape. was refinished but bore is bright and shiny with no pits. Bolt looks a little worn but maybe not too bad. I'll get pictures up tomorrow hopefully. Traded a 77 336 35 for it plus $80. I paid $300 for the 77. I may try to get pictures up tonight.

You might have heard the term "perchbelly" and it refers to the model 36, which was the forerunner of the 336. Then for some years - don't know the dates - there were some larger forearms on the 336's. I always kind of liked them, but they were slimmed down. Love my SC's. Good job!

Well, I took pictures and thought I could load them up but couldn't. Was at church then the range all day then super bowl. By the way took my 30TK and those two rifles are now my favorites. They both shot great! Have maybe a 4 power scope on the 336 RC and a Williams peep on the TK. Was really amazed at how accurate both were, especially the peep on the TK.

when I got home and cleaned it up a bit I noticed the front ramp site is loose. When I removed the rear screw it was the only one holding it on. the front one was either broken or ground off. It's under a pressed in site blade. So is it pressed in after the site base is attached or while off? This could be a problem. I'm sure it should have to be pressed in off the gun as those screws couldn't hold up to a chisel and hammer I wouldn't think. May have to take this one to a gunsmith. Any ideas? Thanks...

Sounds fishy. If theres a screw UNDER the sight then the screws were definately instlled before the blade was pushed in. But a gun from the 50's shouldn't have a screw under the sight anyway. There should be a screw ahead of & one behind the sight. The hole spaceing I think is the same so somebody might have swapped ramps for some reason.

Leverdude, yes there was an extra hole so this must be a different sight. May have to get a gunsmith to look at it. I've used up to three so far trying to fix my son's gun and hopefully the last one did it. Rem 700 light trigger fired when safety was taken off!! Anyway this thing depending on what goes on it might require some drilling and tapping. How do I find the best in the area for working on something? I know there are lots around but wouldn't let just anyone do this. I'm in the Charlotte NC area. I'll pose this question to maybe attract some NC responses. Thanks that made sense Ken. And now that I think about it they might have put that large ramp sight on it to cover up a buggered up hole! Now I'm wondering what kind was on it orginally. I'll look through the site to find a 1951 SC.
