The 17VS is stainless and has a laminated stock compared to the wood/blued 17V or 917V. 17V/VS is pre 2004, 917V/VS is 2004 or later and has the newer but not necessarily better trigger, but better safety and is drilled & tapped for weaver style ala Marlin, included bases. 917VSF is fluted 2005. Some of the late production 17V/S were drilled and tapped for bases but didn't come with bases.

The correct Weaver base is # 16, you need two of them. The application card in the package won't list the Marlin 917 series, but they are the correct ones.

My 917V came with those scabby looking bases Marlin supplied. I replaced them w/ the Weavers. Look better, fit better, and function better too.

Regards,
