SO...

i noted that the FMJ was 11 grains, deducted 1 grain and loaded the 44 mags with 10 grains of unique and cast bullets...

plan to shoot them in a super redhawk..

anywhere that can tell me if this is too much? too little? help???

Mac, you wanna give us an idea of bullet weight. I'am shooting a 245 gr swcgc with 9.8 grs of unique out of my Redhawk and still got a little room to play with.

I've shot a lot of 240 & 250 grain cast lead bullets from my 6.5" .44 mag S&W with 10 grains of Unique. Nice load to shoot, reasonably accurate. Unique can burn a little dirty, but no big deal.

RCBS cast bullet manual lists Unique loads from a 7.5" Ruger & 240 gr bullet:

12.1 grains Unique = 1361 fps
13.1 grains Unique = 1454 fps

With a 245 grain semi-wadcutter:

10.8 grains Unique = 1212 fps
11.8 grains Unique = 1330 fps
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Speer #13 manual has some lead bullet & Unique loads also from a 7.5" Ruger:

240 grain swaged lead bullet:

6.5 grains Unique = 720 fps
7.0 grains Unique = 899 fps

250 grain cast bullet:

9.0 grains Unique = 1029 fps
11.0 grains Unique = 1211 fps

I like the cast bullet/Unique combo from my .44 mag revolver, mild shooting yet enough power that you know you're shooting a big bore.

Regards, Guy
