I have purchased my first cast bullets for my ported 45-70 GG. They are Dardas 350 grain round nose flat point bevel base cast bullets.

Does anyone have a favorite load for these using 3031 or 4198?

Any other loading tips? I am new to cast bullets.

I don't need to drive these super fast. I just got the gun and am more interested in getting used to it without detaching my retinas.

Make sure you got the .459 or .460 sized bullets. FOr some reason, some casters still ignore the need of Marlins to be wider than the rest of the bunch (my Ruger and Buffalo Classic prefer .460 also). Greg Mushial has some loads that will help you out...Look at group size to get an idea of appropriateness. This is with pistol powders. i use Unique, Trail Boss and Titegroup. I've used alot of 31gr. of H4198. You could do the same with your IMR. Here is Greg's data:

I think 12gr. of Unique would be hard for you to beat. Gives you about 1100fps.

Thanks for the info. I got the .459s and they seem to be fine.

I will look into the unique. Thanks again.
