This knife was made for my father during his service in the Navy in WWII and it is 13.5" long. It was custom hand made by a man in Laramie, Wyoming and he made a knife for all in the same community that was in the service. He did a very good job and this one was completely hand made from a large file. Thought that I would share this with everyone and see if anyone else had a similar story from their community. I have used this knife one time on my first moose hunt and I will use it again on buffalo.

What a wonderful keepsake! This is the first of this type of story that I've heard, but hopefully not the last. Use that knife! That's what it was made for and when you do it'll make you think of the man that gave it to you.

The knife was actually given to me from my oldest brother and when he gave it to me it had a small ding in the blade. My brother told me that my dad told my brother that the knife was so sharp it would cut steel, well my brother took the knife when dad was gone and took a chop at the kitchen table leg... and guess what! It cut the leg, or at least put a deep line in it. When the knife was given to me I kept it that way for several years and then I sharpened it until the damage was gone and used it. I would use it more often but it is so long. ::) ;D

A knife like that deserves to be used so see what you can do with it. It would be a perfect knife for butchering and other camp chores not to mention a fine blade for general use. Have you put anything on the sheath to keep it soft? That's a great knife.

Yes, as a matter of fact I wiped it down with some mink oil just after I took the picture. It is also the original sheath that the knife maker made and mailed to my dad in Hawaii. 8) 8) 8)
