I have a Garmin that's 2 years old. The last time I wanted to up-date my maps, Garmin wanted $100 to up-date them!
On my last trip, the battery went, they want $50 to replace the battery! I can buy a new Garmin for $139, and it comes with free maps for life ! *** !!!

Yep. It's expensive to maintain old gear and cheap to buy new. Street maps don't change much and topos change even less. You can't do much for batteries as they wear out. I am sure you will like the new one but my old 80's garmen was almost military in its use and very cool DTG, TTG, DIS, BRG all on one screen. The new ones are setup like a baby's toy. Just distance and direction. Maybe Not even heading and bearing.
