I have a Remington made 1894/.357 that I'm thinking of converting to a pistol grip. I know I would need the bottom metal and lever along with the stock but was wondering if the donor parts would have to be from a Remlin or could it be from any 1894? Also, does caliber matter in regards to the lever like it does when swapping on the larger rifles(.45/70 needs relief cut that others don't have).

Found a black stock set on ebay for a decent price but would need to find a curved bottom metal. Lever would be replaced with an RPP.

Yes, Remington/Marlin had a decade's worth of problems. But I'm with Bobshouse on this one. I have interchanged Remlin and JM Marlin parts and assemblies. Everything fit and functioned. The lever is 1894 specific. No other model lever will work.
