The dovetail will be right at the end of a carbine forend I think. The attachment points are different, the band screw passing thru about 1.5" behind where the forend tennon would be so it'd be easy to cut that groove but I believe the dovetail would be showing at the end of the forend. Thats for a regular 336 or 1895. The Cowboys have shorter forends and Erik would be on the money regarding those guns.Big Blue said:What would I need to do to change from a capped forend to a banded style forend?
Thanks,

Thanks guys! Your right on the money with the position of the dovetail. Now I have to decide whether it's worth my time installing and shaping a dovetail filler plug and then refinishing it.Leverdude said:I believe the dovetail would be showing at the end of the forend.
No, its not worth the time. I would find some walnut from ebay with the cap setup. Like this:Now I have to decide whether it's worth my time installing and shaping a dovetail filler plug and then refinishing it.
