Thank you for sharing and for your pictures, You have a nice rifle and the embellishments are well done, but not done by Marlin. I have heard of people in military service buying these rifles in the PX and having them carved and engraved by craftsmen in other countries. This may be one of those, or it could have been done here by one of the stock companies that offered these services like Bishop or Reinhardt Faison. I would keep it and enjoy it. The value will be somewhat limited by the number of enthusiasts looking for this type of embellishments.

It's nicely scratched up! ;) The carving and engraving are well executed.

I like it when the game scenes are appropriate for the caliber. I never understood having a deer, bear, or elk engraved on a .22.

One of a kind custom guns are like art work. They have to speak to the buyer. That narrows the market and may take longer to sell, but doesn't necessarily diminish value.
Beauty and, in this case, value are in the eye of the beholder.

I like it, not sure how much more it is worth over a stock 39A of the same year.
Have to say that is some of the nicest wood carving I have seen on an older gun, that rifle would have been someones pride and joy. It looks like it was well taken care of or was too nice to use in the field.

Welcome to MO from the banks of the mighty Mississippi!
WOW! What a beautiful rifle. That would be something I would think a collector would certainly welcome into their collection. Yes, there would be those who would say the carving and engraving would detract from their desire to own it but Marlin has in the past put out special editions with adornment. I don't believe this is factory but it's very tastefully done by a wonderful craftsman. I am not a collector but I would think this gun would fetch a good price for a model 39 but what that might be I'll leave to someone more qualified as to value.

I liked beautifully checkered stocks on Marlin lever actions and have bought a few and paid a little extra compared to a plain stock. But, as stated above, you need to find the right buyer. Not everyone likes this fancy carving. I would focus on the rifle itself and ask about condition of the bore, rust issues, function overall and what scope that is. Those answers might dictate more about value than just the carved stock. Shoot it!

You gotta fine looking 39! I’d be proud to own that one. If I could, I’d have all my marlins “scratched” up like that. I can care less of the resale value. They’re my marlins and I will enjoyem the way I want to. Those carvings are spectacular.

WELCOME TO MARLIN OWNERS from NE Indiana.
Pictures on the first post that is awesome.

I think I have seen the hounds chasing the rabbit somewhere before. Not carved but maybe an advertisement for shotgun shells.
I think it would bring $750 to $1200+. It would depend on where it was listed. The overall condition looks great.
It is nicely done but IMHO not great, not factory. I would consider it as I like it. Like anything else you get the right 2 people bidding on it I could see it going much higher.

Do you know anything about it? A little background info would be good.

You have an absolutely beautiful rifle I would be thrilled to own! I can't tell you if that was factory done, but it sure wasn't your average Bubba in his garage. That type of stock carving on the scaled down size of a rimfire rifle takes great skill.

Welcome to Marlin Owners from the beautiful Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, or as Bob Lee Swagger would say, "...the patron state of shootin' stuff'.

I have what I believe is a 1955 Model 39a with s/n M372 that is carved with a squirrel on one side of butt and dogs chasing rabbit on the other. The forearm is also carved. The receiver is engraved with a groundhog on one side and a raccoon on the other. Any ideas on its value? Welcome from NE TN! What a cool work of art you have!!! There is no way I would opine as to value, and personally, this is one that would stay with me - it is very well done, regardless of the value!
