Were the butt plates designed for specific guns or models? . I've seen them here that have Marlin on them, but not like mine. It's a '67 336rc 35 rem.

A 1967 336RC would have had a black plastic butt plate with a white spacer. The word Marlin would have been on the butt plate and not the rider on the horse.

Replacement. My 2008 1894SS .44 Mag has that recoil pad. How about a side view of the OP's buttstock and pad?

The gun is original. Nothing has been replaced.

If your rifle was made in 1967, that is not the recoil pad that was used then. I have a 1968 336RC and it has the black plastic butt plate with white spacer. That butt plate and spacer were initially used by Marlin in 1950 until the late 1980s/early 1990s on the Mod 336.
Pics of my rifle are in this thread: Forgot to post about my "new" 35 Rem

Noting has been replaced except the black plastic buttplate. A modern recoil pad was added on.
