Shot some dirty 38S thru my 1894Css. Wanted to give my bore a good clean with a rod and brush set before shooting some .357 rounds. Any recommendations on what type of bore guide would fit or it any should be used when cleaning my Marlin?
I can't recall the name, but there is an outfit that makes one of Delrin Plastic that's shaped just like the bolt and inserts in place of that. Most guys will tell you that "you really don't need it", but I just use a brass muzzle guide that's already on my Dewey clearning rod -- as it's 3/4" diameter (like a cone shape), it won't enter the receiver, but self-centers the rod in the bore. To be honest, with a .22 cal rod in a .35 bore, it's not too hard to center it as it is.
You could drill out the primer of a 38 case too, and use that to center the rod, if you're that concerned about it. Good luck.
