How come my 1969 30-30 336 doesn't have a barrel band that goes around the barrel?? At the end of the forearm it wraps around the ammo tube then stops.

That is an endcap style... Like my 308MX... They are considered a tad more accurate by not exerting stress on the top of the barrel...

In addition to better accuracy some find them more esthetic to look at too.

It is not a barrel band, it's called the fore end cap.
