Got a chance to look at one up close and it's an interesting design.
Anyone have one that can comment on them?

I looked at em a lot before I got my sw 65, they definitely look odd.. But I've heard the design makes recoil entirely negligible, so much that you subconsciously compensate for it and go down on the target with multiple shots rathe than up.

It's an interesting design and theoretically attractive for lowering the bore axis to reduce muzzle rise with recoil.

However, from what I've read and seen in reviews, the action is unreliable and has frequent light strikes with failure to fire.

I've never seen one in person and never fired one, but they are imported just up the road from me in Dayton, OH.

I'd sure look into it a lot more before I would buy one.

I have the Chiappa Rhino 50DS I thought I was buying it for myself, but my wife loved it so much she ....appropriated it. But it does what it claims, recoil = negligible no matter how hot the load, zero muzzle flip, very accurate, stiff trigger and stiffer cocking lever (it doesn't have a real hammer), odd grip, but comfortable once you get used to it. Very complex mechanism and I hope it never needs repair! They can be tuned, but you may need to find a gunsmith to do it OR send it back to Chiappa to "lighten" the whole operation. Here's a pic of some of my revolvers, guess which one the Rhino is! :biggrin:

Cool, thanks guys, I am thinking it would be fun to use the 4 incher in our Action shooting.
weird guns don't bother me much. I've owned a lot of firsts over the years an this isn't
even close to a first year model.
It's about the same as a S&W 686, might even cost more.

How accurate have you found the gun to be?
I've read a bunch of stuff and watched videos on YouTube but I like
accurate guns especially if they are at least 4" long.

I've found it to be a tack driver actually....surprisingly accurate, you will be amazed at the weight....which is what attracted my wife to it at first. Super light! She likes my GP100, but can't hold it up very long .

A cool and unusual design for sure, BUT apparently Chiappa is installing tracking chips:ahhhhh: in all their weapons now so you might want to check more into that

From my understanding, this was "proposed" by the Italian gov't in 2011, but never actually happened. The gov't "changed" and their mind changed with it, Plus the US distributer threatended to discontinue carrying any Chiappa if this actually happened. You'll notice that most of the posts on this are now old, dating back to 2011, you can find newer posts, but most are stating that this never happened.

Very interesting----last I heard the Italian govt forced it thru anyway and chiappa was going to ship them worldwide rather than having ones for export without. I’ve not actually seen any with chips yet but heard they are embedded in the grips so not easily removed. Last article I saw was new only a few month ago with chiappa refusing to confirm or deny the use of chips. might have been a trumped up article, so would be nice to get a hard confirmation one way of the other. Very interesting design but a chip would be a deal breaker for me.

If I thought it had a chip, I wouldn't own it, or I would have stripped it down to check. Who knows though what really happens at the factory though.

Well actually could look at the bright side of just a “simple” tracking chip.:flute: The new technology being developed is for biometric grips, either by fingerprint or DNA sampling, literally controlling who can use the weapon with the following generation to further have remote disabling capabilities just like the newer cars can be remotely disabled now. Ah the joys of technology being abused. :ahhhhh:

Tell me about it, they have a way of making it sound like it's good for you.....till you actually need it...OR they use it to come take it away. Can you imagine a criminal coming to your door, hacking your pistol so it doesn't work! You're just left standing there with a paperweight in your hand.

I read about the chips. Apparently they were put in specifically at a gun show
as theft prevention and it snowballed from there.
You would need a reader to be within 10 feet for that kind of chip to work
even if they did have one.
I'd like t geot one as I think it would be a good addition to my collection.
The 60DS would be better for target shooting, but I refer a 4" barrel.

It's on my list, maybe next month....

as far as whats heard on the internet as far a chips? sigh, one thing for me how do you power it?

to me as complicated as that action is, and the price? Ill probably stick with my gp100 unitll i see a hell of a deal on it somewhere then ill snatch it up in a heart beat. good luck and i would liek to see a range report with some pics of the target!

For me guns should be beholden to the eye, art - this one is not. Novel idea with merit regarding the lower placed barrel handling recoil well. Fugly. AC

I don't care how ugly a gun is if it's dead reliable and is very accurate and
easy to shoot. It'll put bad guys in the ground.

Like the saying goes "1911's are guns you show your friends, Glocks are guns you show your enemies."

I love the look of the 1911, the way they shoot, and they just look awesome!
But more often that not I CCW a Glock over a 1911.

Glocks aren't pretty but they are the AK47 of the pistol world.
