Or any evidence of the quality of levergun Marlin's coming out of Ilion or wherever Remington will produce them?
Hey Jeff,

Welcome to Marlin Owners.

I think that they are still Scratching their Heads,, trying to figure out how did they do it... ;D

Sort of like Captureing a Crashed Saucer,, and useing Reverse Engineering... ;D

If Remington can't come up with a quality 39 then I don't think we can fuss too much because as far as I am concerned Marlin messed the 39 up all by themselves a few years ago. It is a shame that a 40 year old 39 will still out function and out shoot any of the ones made in the last few years. I see so many people who are having the same problems with these guns and then others like me who own 39s that are 20 - 40 years old who have never had a problem and still don't. We can blame Remington for messing up the Marlin big bores but not the 39.

I own another Marlin 22 (Papoose) and absolutely love it and was really hoping to add the 39a. My preference is to start a legacy with a new 39a, but the issues in the most recent versions make it unacceptable for me. I'd rather be patient and enter the used market for a decent older 39a. But....... I'm also going to look at the Henry.

I have to admit, it was only recently that I found out North Haven had been completely shut down. I knew about the announcement a year ago, but thought I'd read where the North Haven plant would remain open until mid-2011. And, thanks to this forum, that Remington didn't bring much of the Marlin brain trust with them (did I hear they kept one Marlin employee?), so it's certainly going to be tough for them pick up where Marlin left off. I realize Marlin took a few shortcuts with the 39a in the past few years, but am hoping someone at Remington can make it right.

My 2008 39A functioned perfectly out of the box. It shoots just as well as my '47, the only limiting factor being me.
With the exception of a broken extractor, (which was probably my fault because I tweaked it) the rifle has been trouble free. I have done some fluff and buff work to smooth the action, and some mild stoning to get a great trigger. I'll do the rebounding hammer mod to the mainspring guide this weekend to get a real half-cock and increase strike power. None of these things are required for a great rifle, just things I like to tune. I got a good one, but remember...you'll hear about the bad ones-the good ones pretty much aren't brought up because they don't need to be.

I have 2 recent 39As. One NIB that works perfectly and another same vintage that has been a nightmare. Thanks to Swany and the group my problems are finally resolved with that one. I agree with Hendrix. Remington did not screw up the 39A Marlin did that. It will be up to them now to fix the problems in future 39s and hope they will. So far it doesn't look promising based on (lack of) customer service and other signs. Hope I am wrong.

Maybe we could donate Swany for a year or 2 to Remington to get things straight. 8)

I second that emotion :). I think Swany could definetly teach them a thing or three.
