Any general "rules" on sights?

My small collection of vintage lever guns, have Marlin type sights, what I call "semi buckhorn" with the little adjustable notch, and the typical elevator. Both 3" long and 3 3/4" overall length.

Only one Sporting carbine, has the "flat rocky mountain" with v notch. Though I have seen it on a lot of different Marlins.

Are there any general rules of thumb as too what rifles had as "standard"? All of mine appear to be original to the gun, I mean none stand out like a nickel in a goats ear different wear patterns.

I imagine they supplied most any sight available at the time?

Thanks, Ron
