Hey Everyone. Last week I posted that I bought a model 336 in 35 Remington. Yesterday [sunday] I was at a gun-show on the North side of atlanta. I met a guy who had a Marlin 444SS. We went to his truck to look at the rifle. This rifle was built in 2005. I was told the rifle has had only one box of ammo run through the rifle. And it looks like that was a truthful statement. The bluing is perfect, and it only has a couple very small places in the stock. Over all the rifle is in great condition. Where I live, there are not alot of opportunities to find big bore marlins. So I bought the rifle, and I am happy with it. I just wanted to post to folks that I know love the marlins like I do. This makes 5 Lever rifles now, I guess I have Marlinitis....Ray

Thanks Aussie, I appreciate it very much. I am anxious to shoot both of these rifles. I have some ammo for the 35 to start with. But I will have to order ammo for the 444. Where I live, big bore ammo is very hard to come by. before I go, I want to Thank 1895GUNNER for posting the pictures for me. There are alot of fine people on this forum......Ray

Bri, I think its more personal preference, seems like those that had one first that didn't have cbs, like them w/ no safety. Those that had their first one with the safety are used to them and don't mind them.

My first one did not have the cbs (actually hammer block not cross bolt safety ) so occasionally iget the dreaded "clack" when I forget to push to fire position.

I think the safety was added mid 80's.

I believe 83 was the first year of the cross-safety. I don't use it when hunting, so not an issue. The half-cock safety worked for 90-100 yrs, best safety is between yer ears if ya use it. DP

I will not allow new shooters to use a lever without crossbolt safety. Good idea to my way of thinking. If old coots want to disable it, they are free to do so. ;)

Cajun, Thanks for the kind words. Just by chance I ran across the 35. I was in a pawn shop with my son. He was looking for a new duty weapon, and I was just looking around. I asked one of the employ's to see one of the lever rifles they had. I asked if it was a 30-30, and I was told NO, it was a 35. When I saw the condition of the rifle, I had to have it. Where I live in Georgia, rifles like that are not common. I was at a gun-show when I came across the guy with the 444. Again, big bore rifles are not real common, they a harder to come by than the 35's. On my 35 I put a Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40 on that rifle. I already had this Nikon, so I figured I would try it on the 35. A member here at Marlin Owners is sellin me a Nikon Monarch 1.5-4.5x20 I will put that scope on the 444. I hope this all comes together because I am on vacation next week, and I hope to get some shooting in. Take Care..Ray
