Hi there ....I am just having a rant quietly so I thought I would share it with you .... I have the MLXR and really love it !! I have been reloading the ammo because factory ammo is so very expensive here ... (Brisbane/Australia). The brass is horrendously expensive but the Factory loaded ammo is just madness ...$67 for 20 rounds..... The same FTX ammo in 30-30 is less than $25 per 20 rounds..... !!

So is it just that the 30-30 is that much more popular and they make more of the ammo or is it just Hornady screwing us because the .308ME is a proprietary caliber ?? Are the 2 calibers very different in price in the USA ??

Grrrrr !!

Dang Bro; that is rough! From the local gun runner in Athens, GA I can buy Hornady 338 200 grain FTX out the door for $25/box. I don't shoot 30/30 any more; but the last Hornady 160 FTX I purchased was $19 O-T-D. Someone on your end must be gouging you guys on the price?

In Oregon USA you could get 30-30, 30-06, 270 on sale $10-12 a box. but when we had a rush on ammo 3 yr ago prices went nuts Over $2o for these same loads. Things are swinging back but kinda slow. I think you have several things to blame. The proliferation of all the new calibers, the development of so many projectiles like Hornadys core bond bullet and
Nosler silver tip(a cross of Nosler Winchester and I believe Hornady's cor bonding technology).
I don't in general know how popular the 45-70 is in your neck of the woods but if they don't buy as many your cost is more. I would feel the same as you my 7mm wea. cost $45-80 a box about $32 for 7mm Rem mag. No real difference componets for both equal. But I reload savings are big on 7mm and after the price increase I bought 30-30 dies.
As a side note Nosler has been working 2 shifts 6 days a week and about 4 month ago went to 3 shifts they have finally
overcome the buying frenzy and about 1 1/2 yr ago they had a explosion in the factory no one hurt.

That is awful. I just bought 5 boxes of the 338 LE ammo for $21.95/box here. It's slightly more expensive than the 30-30 LE (that was $19.95/box), but interestingly it was less expensive than the 35 Remington LE ($25.95/box). So I get the idea it's not Hornady, it's the retailers, at least here in the states, that are manipulating the price. It may be tougher for your dealer to get the 338 LE in Brisbane, so he is jacking up the price accordingly.

I only really bought the factory ammo for the brass and to shoot in the new gun, I already have been reloading it using Accurate 2520 powder. I also reload the 30-30 and the 35 Remington using Hornady FTX bullets. I have also found that I can buy the FTX bullets pretty reasonably here as well. Hope you can find a cheaper source down under.
