I have just got an 1895CB (45-70) and was wondering if I will be able to shoot a good hunting ammo or will I have to use the cowboy ammo. I know the twist is 1:20RH. Thanks

You can shoot anything you want except Ruger #1 loads. That includes anything over the counter I am familiar with . Buffalo Bore, Corbon, Fed, Winchester, Remington etc. etc.

Like dr. A said, stay away from the ruger #1 loads, but run a few
different bullets thru it. Mine likes 400 grn speer, and 350 Hornady
the cast bullets I load overall seem to be more accurate. Oh I forgot,
the vaunted 405 Rem shoots really well also. the 300 grn bulltes are
popular, but I prefer the bigger, longer bulllets for stability.
