Another winter walk with the twin Labrabozo pups. Mendenhall Glacier in the background on this wet snowy day...

Alaska hoar frost. It's been cold here, 8 deg F this AM (shirtsleeve weather!) and a constant cold with no moisture for awhile now. Love the way the hoar frost builds up, crystal upon crystal.

Gotta admit the metric system makes it cooler (pun intended) to say "Zoikes, -20 today!!!". But still, -6F is respectable and on the low-side of being tropical.

A grey frozen landscape off Eagle Beach, north of town. Along with some river ice from Eagle River that has flowed down and got stuck by the tide on the beach.

Wife's hand for scale. She told me to taste it, just with the tongue....... nah, didn't fall for that trick. Love the grey rope of ground fog clinging to the beach line across on the Chilkat Range across Stephen's Passage.

Another drive out the road. Winter seems to have tapered off here.... Cool, still only 32, but sunny and the ice is melting off the roads.

Vancouver-subspecies of Canadian geese. These birds are resident all year around, and do not migrate. They find everything they need in the local wetlands. A whole bunch of them out at Eagle Beach today.

A walk along Herbert River headed towards Herbert Glacier today. We regularly see bear and wolf tracks on this gravel/sand bank. Nothing today. Carried a .410 along with me in case of grouse or ptarmigan. None of those either.

Of whales and tails and sealions...

Went for a whale watching cruise in the inside passage to celebrate our anniverary. The humpbacks come thru at this time of year to feed, and the sea lions come thru to haul out and calve.

The really cool image is a small humpback right alongside those rocks by the sealion haul-out. The rocks go almost straight down, there is no "beach" per se. See the extreme left....

Spring seems to be upon us, the last few days have been 50F+ in the afternoons. All the snow is gone from the yard, and the clean spring views are awesome.

Ultra high tides. At low tide you can almost walk from this spot (below) to the trees across the way. Almost.

Was in Anchorage recently at the Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary. This guy (or gal) thought he could hide among the ducks and Ravens. Uh, nope....
