Has anyone tried to use Sierra 90gn.varminter for 270Win. I bought a box to try with my xl7. Would appreciate any ideas on weather they shoot good...not so good. If it has worked what for ya what was your load? My Lyman 49th says that AA2700 was their best powder with powder charges of 50.5 being the min and 56.0 being the max. Any other ideas will be appreciated.

Awhile back I did experiment with the Sierra 90gr bullet in my Winchester Model 70 .270 with 24" barrel. My best result was, copied from my records:

Sierra 90gr Varmint HP, CCI250, 57.0grs WW760, OAL=3.250"
RESULTS: vel=3443 for 57.0/WW760; ~=3/4" @ 100 yds; dead on at 100yds when sighted to 200yds with 130gr bullets

As you can see, I found it to be a very good load. The most recent version of Hodgdon's Reloading Manual (2011), shows a maximum load of WW760 to be 59.0 grains, and a suggested OAL of 3.200". They got 3585fps out of a 24" barrel.

I don't shoot too many of these, as it's a rather specialized bullet, but should be fun to try out in your shootin' iron. Good luck.

Found them to shoot great in my Win. M70 .270 with 24" bbl. Pre 64.

47gr. IMR 3031, Rem cases and Rem. 9 1/2 primers-----sub 1" 5 shot groups, should be doing 3300+ fps.

also

for a light load----any brass, 90 gr. Sierra H.P. 10 gr. Unique and CCI MLP primers,
should be doing about 1500 fps. 3/8" groups at 50 yds.

I've used a few of these but haven't dialed it in yet. I used H4350 cause that's works best with my 150gr. Nosler partition. You motivated me and I will read this thread.
