.45" Colt (Long) in the Marlin 94

Good Morning.......Is anyone shooting the .45"Colt? The local club has started holding NRA Cowboy matches. You see .38"/.357" mag., .44" mag. and .45" and in the Lever Action match 30/30s, .32 Specials, .38/55s; but no .45/70s yet. All do the job very well. The .44 mag. is somewhat handicapped by the slow rifling rate. Sometimes they need higher velocity to get the accuracy needed. I use a 24" Cowboy in .45" Colt in both the Pistol Cartridge and the Lever Action matches. I look for a 1.5" group at 100 yds. with cast bullets. I a 250 gr. plain base Cowboy type bullet for the PC match at about 1200 fps and a 337 gr. gas check at 1500+ fps for the larger animals used in the Lever Action match. The 337 grainer takes the Rams down with vigor. Paco"s article on .45"colt is a great help to getting the potential out of your Marlin. 64N 150W PS The 337grain sure slams deer.

I have 1894 Cowboys in 357 , 44 and 45 . The 45 is great but my 357 will walk all over the other two. Also the 44 is more accurate then the 45. This past summer I got a 32-20 in an 1894CCL and it pretty good also. Bear in mind all of these are shooting cast bullets . I have the 336 Cowboy in 30-30 and 38-55, with the 38-55 getting the nod . The first Cowboy I got was the 1895 in 45-70. And it shoots well also . I would very much like 1895's in 38-56 and 40-65; 336 Cowboy in 32-40 ; and 1894 Cowboy in 38-40 and 44-40. So as you can see I don't want much . I started buying the Cowboys to shoot lever action silhouette . Going tomorrow to shoot in Ridgway Pennsylania at silhouette; for the first time :!: Should be intresting we will be shooting the big bore rifle course . Closest target 200 meters, furthest 500 meters.

This match is just for fun so ; I'm taking 336SC's in 30-30 , 32 and 35; also a 1936 in 32. I will use one for each yardage . Then I'm taking two backups 336 Cowboys in 30-30 and 38-55. And last but not least I'm taking my 1892 in 32 Long Colt , just for giggles :D Was gonna take my 1895 Cowboy . But when I sat down to load a dozen or so found I was out of SR4759. Was gonna take that for the 1000 yard buffalo. And would have been very amazed if I hit it :!: So as you can see I'm taking way more firepower then I need 8) Since the 45-70 isn't going I think I may try the 38-55 at 1000 :!:

I used to shoot skeet and trap competitivly and I loved it :!: However it's very bad for a relationship , as I am a very competitive person. But with this cast bullet, open sight , lever action shooting. I find this to be more stress relieving then anything :D :!: And any time nowadays you can say that is GOOD :!:
